Moogfest 2017 #moogfest2017 released their event schedule. Just like last year, it will mix workshops, movies, installations and conversations with some performances during the day. At night it will primarily be live performances. While the performance list seems to pale in comparison to last years – some acts are merely making a repeat appearance – they’re adding three nights of chill out inspired music known as a Prelude to Sleep at the Carolina Theatre to end the night. This is in addition to the Thurs night to Friday morning sleep concert at the 21c Hotel ballroom. Last year Robert Rich revived the concept for Moogfest 2016 – first time performed in over a decade. This year Laaraji continues it while performing his first ever all night concert.

As for the night performances, 808 State and Mykki Blanco is among the headliners for Thursday. On Friday, its Animal Collective and Derrick May. Flying Lotus will be the headliner and Gotye will close out on Saturday night. The event officially ends on Sunday around 4pm. Unlike last years event, this may not be too overwhelming when it comes to which artists you want to see unless you want to catch everything which will be impossible because some performances will be playing at the same time. Last year I found myself rushing to Motorco to watch Shallou and back to the Moogfest tent to see Mad Professor due to performances running behind. I watched three songs of Health at the Motorco parking lot only to rush back to the Carolina Theatre to see Rival Consoles. Later on that night I did the same with Grimes. I stayed around for a couple of songs only to rush back to see Grouper at the Carolina Theatre. I decided on Heathered Pearls over Oneohtrix Point Never. That didn’t work out so well. Last minute additions and further review may change my mind, but right now I’m predicting the daytime activities will carry the festival this time. Michael Stipe will be debuting his installation and will be available to see early evening on all nights. I’m predicting there won’t be much conflict and head scratching either. We’ll see. #moogfest2017…
