From the post below shared by fellow French coldwave band Little Nemo and first heard through Post-Punk, Thierry Sobezyk of the French post-punk/coldwave band Asylum Party passed away yesterday. Update – Sobezyk passed away after a long battle with leukemia.
Along with guitarist-vocalist Philippe Planchon and later keyboardist Pascale Macé, the band existed during the 80s between 1985 and 1990. One could argue if bands like Asylum Party and other French coldwave bands were first ignored or discarded as the wave of gothic influenced bands either rolled into or was homegrown in America during the 1980s and into the 1990s. Regardless, this century bands like Asylum Party experienced a (re)discovery of sorts, more solid cult following than when they were a relatively unknown group of bands confined to their region despite the curious branding (French coldwave and Touching Pop movement).
That said, rest in peace Thierry Sobezyk. Here’s the song one of my friends (who sadly passed away five years ago) introduced to me years back.
