Emancipator and Sinestesia Letargica – two releases that claim their own in the spectrum of chill

unnamed (1)

Portland Producer Doug Appling better known as Emancipator has been busy the last couple of months.  In late August, he released his first single Ghost Pong from the future titled Baralku.    He says of the new single: “I’ve been inspired lately to return to making melodic instrumental Hip-Hop and this one has a chilling vibe to it which felt right. This specific song was born from a field recording when we had a ping pong table on tour with us.”

Only a couple of days later, he returned to the iconic Red Rocks in Colorado with support from Machinedrum.  Just recently his new release Baralku debuted at #1 on the Itunes electronic chart.  Falling in love with hip-hop, jazz, and world music, while learning violin, Emancipator has been honing his style of chill since his highly acclaimed 2006 debut, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough.   He will be touring North America the first part of 2018.  His closest Baralku Tour appearance to Central Florida will be February 24th in Atlanta.

New Release from Low Rhahn project Astrocrushing “Secret”

Multimedia and multi-instrumentalist Low Rhahn was first featured on Chill #29 as one of the members behind the ambient duo Sinestesia Letárgica. Since then he has released a new video – this time from his other project Astrocrushing. The song “Secret” was uploaded to Youtube on Aug 5th, 2017 and is now available on the Astrocrushing Bandcamp page. Instead of his more ghostlike track that was featured on Chill #29, Astrocrushing is inspired by post punk influences but with atmospheric sounds still in step with the Cocteau Twins and more eerie parts of The Cure.  Click on the links below the video for more information.

Chill 29 features music from Sinestesia Letárgica, a Brazilian shoegaze/ambient duo formed in 2015 by Nefelibata (voices and synths)and multimedia and multi-instrumental artist Low Rhahn (from Campina Grande/João Pessoa, Paraíba (Brazil). Its the latest in a long list of projects and bands he’s either founded or been a member of since he first started Genes Kamikaze back in 2007.

Whether its this or the post punk mingling Astrocrushing, his work is conveyed through strong influences of surrealism, synesthesia and lethargy as if his vision were covered with blurred clouds, full of shimmering colour intermittently adjusting between blue and lilac. The sounds and aesthetics draws a comparison, i think to the first post UK shoegaze era, when the scene that celebrated itself became supplanted by Britpop eventually; when small but influential shoegaze artists and scenes sprouted from mid 90s Arizona beautiful noise scene to the Bedazzled label on the eastern US coast and Loveliescrushing’s Scott Cortez’s later projects like Star and Astrobrite when he relocated to Chicago.

Low Rhahn is currently busy touring as Astrocrushing and recording new music.

Sinestesia Letárgica’s latest is Saturn released April 21st, 2017. For more info
